Spacewar! is among the oldest video games ever created, and the first to be played at multiple computers. It was the first video game to be added to the Library of Congress' game canon. The first cathode-ray tube display was a converted oscilloscope used to play Spacewar! and the first trackball (mouse) was a Spacewar! controller at MIT. It is said that the Unix operating system was developed by Ken Thompson so that he could play Spacewar!
